Fylely vs Clio

Clio is general law-practice management software used by firms of every size and practice area, with a large catalogue of connected apps.

Fylely is practice software built around the estate file — the inventory, the ledger, creditor claims, the family's questions — with guardianship and general matters beside it, for solo and small firms. Where the two differ most is below, and so is when Clio is the better choice.

Where Clio is the better fit

  • A firm whose practice is mostly litigation or transactional work and keeps estates as a sideline.
  • A firm that depends on a particular connected app in Clio’s marketplace that has no equivalent here.
  • A firm that wants a sales conversation and a phone number to call.

Where Fylely is the better fit

  • An estate is a file, not just a matter: the inventory, the estate ledger, creditor claims and the family’s questions live on the file itself rather than in documents and custom fields.
  • The price does not grow with the team. A paralegal and a bookkeeper on the file cost nothing extra on the Practice and Firm plans.
  • Every feature is on every plan, so a solo is not deciding between the inventory and the trust ledger.
  • The morning board decides what to look at first; Clio tells you what is on the calendar.

How each charges

Clio

Clio charges per user per month, in several tiers that each unlock more features. Its pricing page is the place to see which tiers it publishes a price for and which it quotes.

Current figures are on Clio's pricing page. We do not print them here: they change, and a stale number about someone else's product would be a false claim with our name on it.

Fylely

One monthly price for the firm, not a price per person. Every plan has every feature; they differ by open matters, team members and support.

  • Solo — $60/mo, up to 40 open matters
  • Practice — $119/mo, up to 100 open matters, up to 3 team members
  • Firm — $199/mo, up to 300 open matters, unlimited team members

14-day trial of the full workspace, no card. Cancel any time; your exports work whether or not you pay. The plans in full.

Moving from Clio

Clio’s Matters, Contacts and Activities pages each export a CSV, and the importer recognises their column headings (Description, Client Name, Practice Area, Open Date). Documents come across as the ZIP Clio exports, matched to matters by name or case number. Appointments that are not court dates do not come across; paid invoices stay in Clio.

You do not have to move everything at once: open your next new estate in Fylely and leave the old files where they are until they close. The full account of what comes across and what does not is on Switching to Fylely. If you would rather not map columns yourself, send us your exports from Settings → Import once you have an account and we prepare the files, at no charge.

What every Fylely plan has

  • A home screen that shows what is late, due this week, and which files have gone quiet, across every matter.
  • An estate file built around the inventory, the estate ledger and the accounting that starts from it, creditor claims, asset collection letters, and a private message thread with each family member.
  • Guardianship and conservatorship files with a care profile and a contact log, and general matters (litigation, family, real estate) with the same deadlines, documents, time and billing.
  • Time, expenses, invoices, online payments, payment plans, a trust ledger that never lets a client go below zero, and monthly reconciliation with a printable report.
  • E-signatures, letters from templates, client intake forms, a client portal and document requests, built in rather than connected.
  • CSV and ZIP import with a preview of every row, exports of every record and every document at any time, an API and webhooks, LEDES 1998B billing, and calendar feeds for Outlook, Google and Apple.
  • One price for the firm, every feature on every plan, and a full-workspace trial with no card.

What Fylely does not do

  • E-file with any court, or keep a library of state court forms. It fills a fillable PDF you supply, from the matter’s own records.
  • Calculate a statutory deadline. You enter or confirm every date; it can suggest a few federal tax dates from dates you enter, each with its citation.
  • Keep the firm’s own books. It sends sent invoices and recorded payments to QuickBooks Online or Xero, one way, and downloads an accountant’s spreadsheets.
  • Hold more than one trust account per firm.
  • Offer phone support, a Zapier app, or a native mobile app. Support is by email; webhooks and an API take the place of a Zapier app; the web app installs on a phone or desktop.

Look before you decide

The sample workspace opens without an account. The trial is the full workspace, with no card, and your existing matters stay readable if it ends.

No credit card. The calculators on this site stay free either way.
