Fylely for family law

A family file with both sides of the disclosure in one place

Fylely is practice software for solo and small firms. It grew up around the estate file, and a family matter now has its own tabs: the people and dates the file turns on, the financial disclosure each side owes, the parenting calendar with its overnight count, support and arrears, and the property statement and incomes your calculations start from. It is built for Canadian and US firms alike.

On a family law matter

Family tab
The dates the file turns on (started living together, married, separated, divorced), each child with who they live with now, and whether a protection order is in place. The other party and their counsel, or that they are self-represented, sit on the Opposition tab.
A client address kept private
Mark a client’s address as withheld and every letter, template and form Fylely fills prints “Address withheld” in its place.
Disclosure tab
One list of financial disclosure items, with what your client owes and what the other side owes side by side. Ask your client through the matter’s upload link; chasing the other side drafts a letter into the matter’s notes. The starting list is a suggestion you edit, never the legal requirement.
Property statement
Each spouse’s property and debts with an agreed column and the equalization worked out, and a printable copy for the mediator or the other side.
Incomes and saved calculations
Each spouse’s income on the file, the family calculators opened from those figures, and every calculation saved to the file with its date and the figures it used, so you can show what changed between drafts.
Calculators
The Canadian federal child support table amount for every province and territory, sharing child expenses in proportion to income, the lump-sum value of support, and the equalization payment.
Parenting calendar and overnight count
Each parenting schedule (the one in place, your proposal, the other side’s) as a calendar of who has the children each night, with holidays and vacations on top. Fylely counts each parent’s overnights over the next twelve months or a calendar year and shows the schedules side by side with each parent’s share. Whether a count meets a threshold is your call. Your client can see the calendar, never the exchange notes.
Support and arrears
Child support, spousal support and children’s expenses: who pays, how much, how often, and whether it is ordered, agreed or only proposed. Record the payments and the Support tab shows what fell due, what was paid and what is in arrears. You enter the amount; Fylely does not work out what support should be.
Negotiation
Offers, demands and counteroffers in order, so the settlement history is on the file rather than in an email thread.

And on every matter

  • Deadlines and hearings on one morning board, with the date you entered and nothing invented.
  • Tasks, documents, notes, contacts, the other side and their counsel, and a conflict search across every name on every file.
  • Time in hours and minutes, expenses, invoices, payment links, and a trust ledger reconciled against each bank statement.
  • A private client portal: messages, and an upload link for the documents you are waiting on.
  • Letters and templates filled from the file, signatures built in, and the whole matter as one printable file.

Who it is not for

  • A US firm that wants state child support or spousal support worked out inside its practice software. Fylely does not carry state guideline formulas: you enter the figure from your state’s own calculator.
  • A firm that needs family court forms filled or e-filed from its practice software.

What Fylely does not do

  • Decide what disclosure is required, or by when. The starting list is a suggestion you edit.
  • Calculate spousal support, or child support under any US state’s guidelines.
  • Fill or e-file family court forms. Its court-forms list covers estates and guardianships.

Moving your files

Matters, contacts, time, deadlines, hearings and unpaid invoices come across as spreadsheet (CSV) exports from your current system, and you see every row before anything is saved. If you would rather not map the columns yourself, send us the exports once you have an account and we prepare them for you to import, at no charge.

You do not have to move everything at once: open your next new matter in Fylely and leave the old files where they are until they close. The full account of what comes across and what does not is on Switching to Fylely.
